KUNHEE (SHAWN) KIM, R.AC, R.TCMP (HE/HIM)

Shawn is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R. TCMP) and Acupuncturist (R. Ac) and is in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO). After completing his Bachelor of Science degree at McGill University, his interest in East Asian medicine led him to study Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCTCM). At TSTCM, he completed the Advanced TCM program at TSTCM, which is the equivalent of a Doctorate Degree Program in Oriental Medicine in the United States.

During his time at TSTCM, he trained in many different TCM modalities such as TCM-based acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion,

Gua Sha, Tuina, and Chinese herbal medicine. As he began his practice, he incorporated other acupuncture styles such as Master Tung’s acupuncture and Zhu’s acupuncture to increase the effectiveness of his treatments. His extensive training in various TCM modalities allow him to treat a wide range of conditions, such as pain, sports injuries, musculoskeletal disease, neuromuscular disorder, digestive problems, reproductive health, and more.

While Shawn was studying at TSTCM, he had a chance to do student clinics at Dorothy Ley Hospice as a volunteer. He was able to see a number of cancer patients, and witnessed how cancer can affect them and their loved ones. This experience led to his interest in using TCM to help the patients and those around them. After training and researching, he believes that the integrative treatment of both Eastern and Western medicine is the best way to help.

Outside of being a healthcare provider, Shawn has been practicing Kendo, a Japanese martial art, since 2003. He was the national representative for Canada during the 2018 World Kendo Championship and continues to attend competitions and train younger martial artists.

Shawn is a sympathetic person in nature, and he connects with his patients well. Combining his science background, the fundamentals of TCM and his own interest in Oriental culture and healthcare, he strives to treat a variety of diseases by their root cause. He finds that it is most rewarding to him when his treatment  With his treatment personalized to each patient’s need, he seeks to improve patients’ quality of life to their maximum.
